Department: GHG-Bett Ancillary Services
Purpose: Coordinates daily operation and staff assignment within the Laboratory. May assume interim responsibility in the event of the manager's absence. Provides clinical and technical direction as well as providing input in performance reviews of technical laboratory staff. Performs diagnostic testing in all Laboratory Subspecialties. Assists manager in a variety of tasks, including the following: Laboratory Information system operations, budget development, analysis of budgetary performance and variances, productivity management, recruitment and hiring of staff, new staff orientation, implementation and follow through with the corrective action process, ensuring compliance of staff with identified clinical skill development, competencies, regulatory practice guidelines, performance improvement activities, data collection/analysis, product design, operationalization of departmental and institutional policies and procedures, preparation for the compliance with regulatory agencies, identifying program development needs and assisting in their implementation, and representing the Laboratory.

Supervisory Responsibility: Advanced Direction: The job requires some accountability for scheduling, assigning, or coordinating work. The employee will check the quality of work, provide guidance, instruction, training, and direction to others. The job requires some formal or official supervisory responsibility. The individual serves as a group leader and acts in an assistant supervisory or lead role. In addition, the employee is expected to provide information or suggestions on human resources matters.
Materials Responsibility: Limited: Work requires limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include supplies, equipment, inventories, small budgets, and other similar material assets. The employee has a limited amount of control over these resources. The cost of errors is also limited in terms of damage, waste or financial loss. Problems associated with material resources are not complex. The volume of resources may vary, but the level of difficulty in dealing with these resources is uncomplicated.

Education: 4 year college/university degree or equivalent experience
Field Of Study: Health Care Studiesor Biological studies
Special Training: Basic Life Support
Licensure/Registration: MT (ASCP) or equivalent, Valid Driver's License
Experience: Less than 1 year experience required.
Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are of moderate difficulty and sensitivity. Contact with others may involve detailed & lengthy dialogues & exchanges of information. Requires a moderate amount of interpersonal skills. Interactions involve dealing with moderately complicated problem situations or stressful encounters.
Working Conditions: There is exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental conditions. There are some health and safety risks. Position may require safety equipment and precautions. The amount of time the employee may experience these moderate conditions is limited to 70% or less of the work day.
